1.) Keep Visible, Keep Sociable.  It is a social network after all, so you must ensure your presence and visibility  on Twitter. Set a few minutes at certain times of the day to post tweets and respondig to the tweets you receive. This is an excellent way of getting to know more people. You must also follow a certain number of people every week and check which ones follow you back. Try to make direct replies. There are a good number of Twitter tools that can be used– perhaps the most useful one would be your phone since the  good thing about Twitter is that you can reply from your mobile device.

2.) Strengthen your profile. The profile page you created when you first joined Twitter can also go a long way in ensuring success on Twitter.  Make the page interesting and powerful. What does your profile say about you? Your personality? Your interests? Avoid keeping your profile bland and corporate, a few interesting clues to your personality can  generate more interest and receptiveness toward your messages.

3.) Connect. I cannot stress enough that Twitter is based on person-to-person connections– most successful Twitter networks  begin with relationship-building.  Connect with your target market  as l people, not as a theoretical faceless target market. You must strive to build good relationships first before even thinking of trying to sell anything to people.

Share more than just a business opportunity. While extremes on which minute-by minute blow by blow accounts of what you are doing and what you’re having for lunch can be annoying, it is still a good idea to keep some tweets that share a little more about you as a person. As has been said before, Twitter is a social network– and a highly relational one at that. Effective communications are often based on a person to person level, and it may be more true of Twitter  than others.

4. Connect some more. When there are messages for you, try to answer them promptly. When someone tweets you, thank him or her. Try to look at Twitter as a billboard where youíre free to post anything that you want others to know. By using it often and wisely, you can enhance your presence on Twitter.

5.) Share videos and photos. Do not underestimate the power of photos and videos to inspire interest, and  establish closer relationships. Not only do videos and photos effectively bypass the shortcomings of the 140-character limit,  it can be a strong medium for strengthening your individual brand, brand personality and provide exposure.
